We welcome you to this website of the Diocese of Kokstad. The Diocese of Kokstad is on the Eastern coast of South Africa, stretching from the mountains of Lesotho at 9000ft and plunging to the Indian Ocean.

The area of the Diocese is 18 000 square km, and the population is estimated at 1.5 million. It is a diocese of few towns and many rural villages. The languages spoken are Xhosa (75%), Sotho (20%) and English (5%).

The first resident priest came to Kokstad in 1884 to minister in a church built by the Irish soldiers of the Cape Mounted Rifles. Thus the Cathedral and the Diocese are under the patronage of St. Patrick.
